The 3M 7100026182 is a blue, film-backed fine line masking tape designed for precision paint line work on complex and contoured surfaces. At 4.8 mil thickness, it sits low against the substrate, reducing paint bleed and delivering clean, sharp color separation. The tape measures 0.5 inches wide and 60 yards long per roll. It conforms to irregular shapes and curved surfaces while resisting edge lift in corners and recessed areas. Adhesion to steel is rated at 42 oz per inch of width, with a tensile strength of 10 lbs per inch of width. Auto body technicians, industrial painters, and finishing tradespeople are the primary installers.
This tape is intended for use on freshly cured acrylic lacquer, enamel, and polyurethane painted surfaces where a secondary color line must be masked cleanly. Its thin, smooth backing allows it to lay flat over contoured body panels and irregular surfaces without bridging. The tape performs at temperatures up to 250 degrees F, making it suitable for paint booth and baking oven applications. It is not rated for outdoor or prolonged exterior exposure and should be removed promptly after the finishing process is complete.
Designed for use over freshly cured acrylic lacquer, enamel, and polyurethane paint systems in automotive and industrial finishing applications. Not suitable for outdoor applications.
Apply only to fully cured paint surfaces to avoid lifting or marring the existing finish. Press tape edges firmly along the entire length to ensure a sealed paint line, paying close attention to curves and recessed areas. Remove the tape at a consistent angle immediately after the topcoat has reached the appropriate cure stage to prevent edge chipping or tearing. No special tools are required, but surface cleanliness and dry conditions at time of application are critical to adhesion performance.
