The 3M 7100024898 is a thin-wall, general-purpose heat shrink tubing built on the FP-301 polyolefin platform. It delivers a balanced combination of electrical insulation, physical durability, and chemical resistance suited to demanding industrial and military wiring environments. The tubing carries a 600-volt rating and features a 2:1 shrink ratio, allowing it to conform tightly over a wide range of wire and connector diameters. Flexible polyolefin construction provides moisture seal protection while remaining mechanically tough, easily markable, and resistant to cold flow. Licensed electricians, aerospace technicians, and military depot-level maintenance personnel are the primary installers.
This tubing is suited for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical applications where reliable insulation and strain relief are required. Typical use cases include cable splice insulation, terminal protection, wire harness covering, wire bundling, and component packaging. Its flame-retardant properties make it appropriate for fire-resistant covering applications. The black color coding aids fast identification in multi-conductor harness assemblies. The tubing operates across a temperature range of -67 to 275 degrees F (-55 to 135 degrees C), making it functional in both cold-storage environments and high-heat enclosures.
Designed as a general-purpose thin-wall heat shrink tubing for 1/2-inch diameter applications in industrial, commercial, and military wiring assemblies where 600-volt-rated flame-retardant insulation is required.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or qualified technicians following applicable NEC guidelines. De-energize all circuits completely before applying heat shrink over any splice, terminal, or connection. Use a calibrated heat gun rather than an open flame to ensure even shrinkage and avoid damaging the tubing or adjacent components. Allow the tubing to cool fully before restoring power or mechanical load to the assembly.
