The 3M 7100023489 is a coated abrasive belt built around 3M Precision-Shaped Grain technology, which slices through metal rather than gouging or plowing the way conventional abrasive grains do. Designated as the Cubitron II 947A, this belt runs at 60 grit and measures 132 inches long by 2 inches wide. It is engineered for low and medium pressure grinding and finishing on stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum. An X-weight poly-cotton backing provides the flexibility needed for contour work and variable-pressure passes. A built-in grinding aid reduces friction and keeps cutting temperatures lower, which helps protect the workpiece from heat-related distortion or discoloration.
This belt is suited for metal fabrication shops, weld grinding, and surface finishing operations where material removal rate and belt life are priorities. The 60-grit cut makes it appropriate for aggressive stock removal followed by intermediate finishing steps. It is commonly used on stationary belt grinders, file belt sanders, and inline pneumatic tools in both shop and field environments. Applications include grinding welds flush, deburring, and blending on sheet metal, structural steel, and aluminum fabrication work.
Designed for use on belt grinders and file belt sanders accepting a 132-inch by 2-inch abrasive belt. Optimized for grinding and finishing stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum workpieces under low to medium contact pressure.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with abrasive belt equipment. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing the belt. Verify belt tracking direction against the arrow printed on the belt backing before starting the machine. Inspect the contact wheel, platen, and tool rest for wear or damage before mounting a new belt.
