The 3M 7100023488 is the Cubitron II 947A abrasive belt, built for aggressive material removal on metal surfaces. It uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain technology, which slices through metal rather than plowing through it, producing faster stock removal with less applied pressure. The belt measures 132 inches long by 3 inches wide and runs at 60 grit. Its X-weight poly-cotton backing provides the flexibility needed for contoured and flat grinding applications. A built-in grinding aid reduces friction and keeps cutting temperatures lower, which helps protect the workpiece from heat-related distortion. This belt is installed and used by metal fabricators, weld finishers, and maintenance technicians working on production or job-shop grinding lines.
The 947A belt is optimized for low- and medium-pressure grinding applications on stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum. It is well-suited for weld blending, surface conditioning, and stock removal on tube, pipe, flat stock, and structural shapes. The 60-grit specification positions it as an aggressive cut belt for initial material removal before transitioning to finer finishing steps. Shops processing stainless steel will benefit from the cooler cut, which reduces the risk of heat tint or surface contamination on the workpiece.
Designed for use on belt grinders and backstand grinders that accept a 132-inch by 3-inch abrasive belt. Suitable for low- and medium-pressure metal grinding on stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum.
Installation is performed by machine operators or maintenance technicians following the belt grinder manufacturer's belt-change procedure. Disengage and lock out power to the grinder before removing or installing any abrasive belt. Confirm belt tension and tracking alignment before resuming operation. Always wear appropriate PPE, including eye protection and gloves, when handling and installing abrasive belts.
