The 3M 7100017820 is a Scotch-Brite surface conditioning belt designed for detail finishing, blending, deburring, and surface preparation work on metal. Built on a reinforced nonwoven open-web construction with an aluminum oxide abrasive and resin bond over a scrim backing, this belt delivers consistent surface conditioning results without the excessive heat buildup or loading common with coated abrasives. It is sized at 42 inches long by 1 inch wide, making it well suited for narrow-belt finishing machines and detail grinders used in fabrication and metalworking shops.
This belt is used across a range of metal finishing applications including blending weld seams, cleaning oxidation, deburring cut edges, flat finishing, setting the grain, and achieving straight-line brushed or stainless steel finishes. Its nonwoven structure conforms to contours and complex part geometries, which makes it a common choice in both manual finishing operations and robotic processing cells where consistent contact with irregular surfaces is required.
Designed for use on narrow-belt finishing machines and detail grinders accepting a 42-inch by 1-inch abrasive belt. Suitable for use on a variety of metals including stainless steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Installation of abrasive belts should be performed by the machine operator following the equipment manufacturer's belt-change procedure. Power down and lock out the machine before changing the belt. Verify belt tracking and tension according to the machine manufacturer's specifications before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears or damage before each use and do not exceed the maximum operating speed rated for the belt and machine combination.
