The 3M 7100016686 is the Dual Lock Reclosable Fastener SJ3540, a black polypropylene interlocking fastener tape with a rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. It delivers 250 stems per square inch and an engaged thickness of 0.23 inches, producing a secure mechanical closure rated for up to 1,000 open-and-close cycles. The roll measures 3/4 inch wide by 50 yards long and weighs 2.75 pounds. Designed for indoor applications, it handles temperatures up to 120 degrees F. Technicians and installers use this tape to create tool-free, reclosable bonds on panels, covers, and assemblies where conventional fasteners are impractical.
This fastener tape is suited for residential and light commercial indoor installations where a clean, removable, and repeatable attachment is required. It bonds reliably to many rigid plastics including acrylic, polycarbonate, and ABS, as well as powder-coated paint surfaces and low-surface-energy materials such as polypropylene and polyethylene. Common applications include securing access panels, wire management covers, HVAC cabinet liners, and equipment enclosures where repeated service access is expected.
Bonds to acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, powder-coated paints, polypropylene, and polyethylene surfaces. Designed for indoor use only. Confirm surface compatibility with a test bond before full installation on critical assemblies.
Surface preparation is critical — clean and dry all bonding surfaces thoroughly before applying the adhesive backing, as oils, dust, and moisture will reduce adhesion. Apply firm, even pressure along the full length of the tape after positioning to maximize initial bond strength. Because this is an indoor-only product, do not install in locations exposed to direct moisture, outdoor conditions, or temperatures above 120 degrees F. No special tools are required, but allow adequate dwell time after application before loading the joint.
