The 3M 7100014221 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive stock removal and metal finishing in industrial and fabrication environments. It combines 3M ceramic abrasive grain with aluminum oxide in a blend that cuts faster and lasts longer than conventional aluminum oxide belts. The heavyweight polyester cloth backing handles high-pressure grinding applications and can be run dry or with a lubricant. A built-in grinding aid reduces heat buildup during operation, making this belt well suited for heat-sensitive metals including stainless steel. Licensed metalworkers, fabricators, and weld finishing technicians are the primary users.
This belt is sized at 10.688 inches long by 3 inches wide with a 36 grit rating, placing it in the coarse-cutting range for rapid material removal. It is appropriate for bench grinders, file belt sanders, and backstand grinders used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and industrial manufacturing lines. The orange-colored backing is characteristic of the 777F series. Applications include weld blending, deburring, and surface conditioning on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The belt can be used in both wet and dry grinding setups depending on the machine configuration and material requirements.
Designed as a replacement-style coated abrasive belt for bench grinders, backstand grinders, and file belt sanders accepting a 10.688-inch by 3-inch belt size.
Installation is performed by metalworking or maintenance technicians. Before changing the belt, power down the grinder and allow all moving parts to come to a complete stop. Verify belt tracking and tension according to the machine manufacturer's guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the contact wheel and platen for wear or damage that could reduce belt life or cause uneven grinding.
