The 3M 7100010398 is a coated abrasive belt engineered for aggressive material removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Part of the 3M 984F series, it features a ceramic abrasive grain on a heavy polyester cloth backing with a closed-coat density. The belt measures 3 inches wide by 132 inches long and carries a 60 grit rating, placing it in the medium grade range. Ceramic grain fractures during use, continuously exposing sharp cutting edges for sustained cut rate and longer belt life. This combination of grain type, backing weight, and coat density makes it suited to high-pressure, high-heat grinding and finishing applications. Installation is performed by maintenance technicians and metal fabricators running compatible stationary or portable belt grinder equipment.
This belt is designed for use on wide belt sanders, stroke sanders, and industrial belt grinders that accept a 3-inch by 132-inch endless belt. It supports both wet and dry operation, making it adaptable to grinding cells that use coolant or cutting fluid as well as dry setups. Typical applications include weld blending, scale removal, surface conditioning on structural steel, and stock removal on stainless or carbon steel workpieces. The 984F series ceramic grain performs well under high pressure loads where aluminum oxide belts would glaze prematurely.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement belt for stationary and portable belt grinders and wide belt sanders configured for a 3-inch by 132-inch endless abrasive belt.
Installation is performed by maintenance personnel or machine operators familiar with belt grinder equipment. Always power down and lockout the machine before changing belts. Verify belt tracking and tension per the machine manufacturer's specifications before resuming operation. Inspect the contact wheel and platen for wear or damage prior to mounting a new belt.
