The 3M 7010516112 is a coated abrasive belt designed for dry grinding, blending, and surface prep on metal, wood, and composite materials. Running 4 inches wide by 36 inches long, it carries an 80-grit aluminum oxide abrasive on an X-weight cloth backing with open-coat density. The medium-grade grit removes stock efficiently while leaving a consistent scratch pattern suitable for follow-up finishing passes. This Series 340D belt is built for stationary belt sanders and similar power-feed machines common in fabrication shops, HVAC equipment repair bays, and plumbing or pipefitting environments where weld seams and rough surfaces need conditioning before assembly or inspection.
This belt is suited for dry-operation belt sanders in trade and light industrial settings. Typical applications include deburring cut pipe and conduit ends, blending weld beads on sheet metal, removing mill scale from structural stock, and preparing surfaces for primer or sealant adhesion. The 4-inch by 36-inch format fits a wide range of bench-top and floor-standing belt sander platens used in HVAC sheet metal shops, pipefitting fabrication, and electrical panel or enclosure work.
Designed as a standard replacement belt for belt sanders and grinders that accept a 4-inch by 36-inch abrasive belt in dry-operation service.
Belt installation should be performed with the sander unplugged or the power-disconnect locked out and tagged per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Confirm belt tracking and tension adjustment before powering the machine, and verify that the arrow or grain-direction marking on the belt interior aligns with the machine's drive direction. Inspect the platen and contact wheel for wear before mounting a new belt, as a damaged platen can cause premature belt failure or uneven cut.
