The 3M 7010512870 is a coated abrasive spiral band designed for use with rotary drum sanding tools in deburring, finishing, and material removal applications. It features an aluminum oxide abrasive grain bonded to an X-weight cloth backing, delivering a 50 grit coarse cut. At 0.75 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches wide, this band fits standard spiral-band mandrels used in pneumatic and electric die grinders. The X-weight cloth backing provides durability under the lateral and radial stress typical in contour sanding and port-work operations. Licensed trades and fabricators rely on this grit level for aggressive stock removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces.
This spiral band is suited for metalworking shops, HVAC fabrication, plumbing rough-in work, and general trade use where inside-diameter finishing and edge blending are required. The coarse 50 grit makes it appropriate for initial material removal passes rather than final finishing. It fits drum sanding mandrels sized for 0.75 inch diameter bands and is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 100 units per order. Applications include deburring pipe ends, smoothing weld zones, and refining contoured or irregular surfaces on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or stock consumable for rotary drum sanding mandrels accepting 0.75 inch diameter spiral bands in pneumatic and electric die grinders.
Installation is performed by pressing the spiral band onto the appropriate-size expanding mandrel mounted in a die grinder or drill press. Ensure the tool is powered off and air supply is disconnected before changing bands. Do not exceed the tool or mandrel manufacturer's rated RPM for this band diameter. Inspect the band for tears or uneven wear before each use and replace when abrasive material is depleted.
