The 3M 7010512868 is a coated abrasive spiral band designed for precision sanding, deburring, and finishing in tight bores, holes, and contoured surfaces. It runs at 240 grit, placing it in the Very Fine grade range, which suits final-stage material removal and surface prep before coating or inspection. The band measures 3/8 inches in diameter by 1/2 inch wide and is backed with a heavy-duty X-weight cloth backing that resists tearing under rotary load. The abrasive material is aluminum oxide, a durable, self-sharpening mineral well suited to ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as hard plastics. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and fabricators install these bands on mandrel-driven spindle tools.
This spiral band is used in applications requiring controlled finishing inside cylindrical bores, ports, and recesses where flat abrasives cannot reach. The 3/8-inch diameter makes it appropriate for small-bore work on metal components, precision parts, and machined castings. It is suited for bench-mounted or handheld rotary tools with the correct matching mandrel size. The Very Fine 240 grit is commonly used in finishing passes after coarser stock removal, leaving a refined surface suitable for close-tolerance inspection or downstream coating processes.
Designed for use with mandrel-style spindle tools accepting a 3/8-inch spiral band. Confirm mandrel diameter matches the 3/8-inch band inner diameter before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or metal fabricators using a compatible spiral band mandrel secured in a rotary tool, die grinder, or drill press. Power down and unplug or de-energize the tool before mounting or removing the band. Inspect the band for tears or uneven wear before each use and replace if the abrasive layer shows significant depletion or backing damage. Follow ANSI abrasive product safety guidelines regarding maximum operating speed for the mandrel and band combination.
