The 3M 7010512864 is a coated abrasive spiral band designed for use with rotary sanding drums in deburring, blending, and finishing operations. Built on a cloth backing with X-weight designation, it delivers consistent cut and durability under the heat and pressure common in metal and woodworking applications. The abrasive material is aluminum oxide, a reliable all-purpose grain that self-fractures during use to expose fresh cutting edges. At 50 grit, this band falls in the coarse grade range, making it well suited for aggressive stock removal and edge cleanup. The band measures 1/2 inch in diameter by 1/2 inch wide and is sold individually.
This spiral band is intended for use on drum sanders and oscillating spindle sanders in shop and field environments. Coarse 50-grit aluminum oxide bands are commonly used in metalworking, woodworking, and general fabrication to remove burrs, smooth rough edges, and shape contoured surfaces. Machinists, fabricators, and general tradespeople typically use bands in this grit range when a fast, aggressive cut is needed before moving to finer finishing steps.
Designed for use with rotary drum sanding mandrels that accept 1/2 inch diameter by 1/2 inch wide spiral bands in drill press, bench grinder, and handheld rotary tool applications.
Installation is performed by sliding the spiral band onto a compatible rubber drum mandrel and securing it according to the mandrel manufacturer's instructions. Power down and disconnect the tool before changing bands. Inspect the mandrel for wear or damage before installing a new band, as a damaged mandrel can cause uneven wear or band failure. Eye protection and appropriate hand protection should be worn during sanding operations.
