The 3M 7010512860 is a ceramic abrasive spiral band designed for use with spiral band drums on portable and stationary sanders. The ceramic abrasive grain delivers aggressive stock removal and extended service life compared to aluminum oxide alternatives. At 80 grit, this band falls in the medium grade range, making it suitable for initial shaping, blending welds, and removing surface material before finishing passes. The cloth backing with an X-weight designation provides durability and flexibility during contour sanding operations. Fabricators, metalworkers, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this product.
This spiral band is used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and manufacturing environments where consistent material removal on curved or contoured surfaces is required. The 3 inch diameter by 1 inch wide format fits standard drum sander mandrels of the corresponding size. Applications include deburring, blending, and smoothing on steel, stainless steel, and other hard metals where ceramic grain performance is specified. The medium grit makes it a common first-step abrasive in multi-stage finishing sequences.
Designed as a replacement-style spiral band for drum sander mandrels with a 3 inch diameter and 1 inch wide drum configuration. Confirm mandrel dimensions before installation to ensure proper fit.
Spiral bands are installed by metalworkers and fabricators onto expanding drum mandrels mounted in die grinders, drill presses, or bench-top drum sanders. Power down and disconnect the tool from its power source before changing bands. Inspect the mandrel for wear or damage before mounting a new band, and ensure the band seats fully against the drum surface before resuming operation. Follow the tool manufacturer guidelines for maximum RPM ratings to avoid band failure during use.
