The 3M 7010508278 is a coated abrasive spiral band designed for use with spindle sanders, drum sanders, and rotary finishing tools. It features aluminum oxide abrasive on a heavy cloth backing (X-weight) and cuts at 60 grit, placing it in the medium grade range. At 1/4 inch in diameter and 1/2 inch wide, this band fits small-diameter sanding spindles used in contour, curved-surface, and bore finishing work. Machinists, woodworkers, and metal fabricators reach for spiral bands when sanding irregular or hard-to-reach profiles that flat abrasives cannot conform to. The cloth backing provides durability under the flex and tension of spiral-wrap operation.
This spiral band is suited for light stock removal and surface blending on wood, metal, and composite materials. The 60-grit aluminum oxide construction handles medium material removal without loading quickly, making it appropriate for deburring edges, sizing drilled holes, and smoothing routed contours. It is commonly used in woodworking shops, fabrication facilities, and maintenance applications where small-bore or contoured surfaces require consistent abrasive action.
Designed as a replacement-style coated abrasive spiral band for use with 1/4 inch diameter sanding spindles and mandrel-style rotary abrasive tools.
Installation is performed by machinists, woodworkers, or fabricators familiar with rotary abrasive tooling. Power down and de-energize the tool before mounting or removing abrasive bands. Ensure the spindle diameter matches the band diameter before seating the band to prevent slippage during operation. Inspect the band for tears or separation before use and replace when abrasive loading or wear reduces cut rate.
