The 3M 7010403591 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve rated for use up to 35 kV, designed to restore and protect damaged cable sheaths in medium-voltage electrical applications. The sleeve wraps around the cable without requiring access to the cable end, making it practical for field repairs on energized runs that have been de-energized for service. The inner wall is coated with hot melt adhesive that activates under heat, forming a watertight, corrosion-resistant bond with the cable surface. A corrosion-proof metal clip secures the wraparound seam before and during shrinking. Licensed electricians and cable splicing technicians are the primary installers.
This sleeve is suited for medium-voltage cable sheath repair, cable joint reinforcement, and supplemental corrosion protection on undamaged cable runs. It performs in aggressive environments including direct burial, wet locations, and industrial installations where mechanical stress on the cable sheath is a concern. The wraparound format eliminates the need to cut or disconnect the cable during installation, reducing downtime on repair jobs.
Designed as an OEM-style repair sleeve for medium-voltage cable sheath applications up to 35 kV, including cable joints and corrosion protection use cases on compatible cable systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician or certified cable splicing technician following applicable NEC requirements and utility or site-specific switching and lockout/tagout procedures. De-energize and verify the cable is at zero energy state before beginning any sheath repair work. Apply heat evenly along the sleeve using a calibrated heat gun or torch appropriate for heat shrink materials, working from the center outward to avoid air pockets under the adhesive layer. Do not exceed the manufacturer-recommended heat range for the adhesive layer during application.
