The 3M 7010400807 is a multiple-wall, semi-rigid heat shrink tubing designed for electrical wire and cable protection in demanding environments. Built from co-extruded, selectively cross-linked polyolefin, it features a 2.5:1 shrink ratio and an integral meltable inner wall that flows into voids and around irregularities during heat application, creating a moisture-resistant seal. Each stick measures 48 inches in length. The tubing ships in a black finish and is sold per piece. Licensed electricians, wire harness assemblers, and field service technicians are the primary installers of this product type.
This tubing is suited for applications requiring environmental sealing, strain relief, and insulation on wire splices, terminations, and cable bundles. The semi-rigid construction provides added mechanical protection compared to standard single-wall tubing. Common use cases include industrial control panels, marine wiring, automotive harnesses, and utility service equipment where moisture ingress and abrasion resistance are critical requirements. The 48-inch stick length allows techs to cut to the length needed on the job.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or upgrade option for standard multiple-wall heat shrink tubing applications on 1/8-inch nominal diameter wire, cable, and connector terminations.
Installation is performed by qualified electricians or wire harness technicians following applicable NEC guidelines. De-energize all circuits before applying heat shrink tubing to live wiring assemblies. Apply heat evenly using a heat gun moving along the length of the tubing to avoid scorching; do not use an open flame. Allow the tubing and inner adhesive wall to fully recover and cool before restoring power or handling the assembly.
