The 3M 7010399002 is a clear polyolefin heat shrink sleeve designed to insulate, protect, and seal electrical wire splices and terminations. With a 2:1 shrink ratio, the tubing starts at 1/8 inch inside diameter and shrinks down to 0.062 inches after heat is applied at 212 degrees F or above. At 6 inches in overall length, it provides adequate coverage for most small-gauge wire connections. Licensed electricians and low-voltage technicians install this sleeve on conductors ranging from 22 AWG to 16 AWG, making it a go-to consumable for control wiring, instrumentation, and field splicing work.
This heat shrink sleeve suits residential and commercial electrical applications where corrosion resistance, moisture protection, and a clean finished appearance are required. Common use scenarios include panel wiring, thermostat and control circuit terminations, sensor wiring, and any application involving small-gauge copper conductors that need mechanical and environmental protection after splicing or terminating. The clear color allows visual inspection of the conductor or connection underneath without removing the sleeve.
Suitable for use over 22 AWG to 16 AWG conductors. Designed as an OEM-style heat shrink sleeve for general electrical insulation and protection applications on small-gauge wiring in residential and commercial installations.
A licensed electrician or qualified technician should install heat shrink sleeving in accordance with NEC requirements for the circuit type being serviced. De-energize and lock out the circuit before applying the sleeve to any conductor. Slide the sleeve over the conductor before making the splice or termination, then position it over the connection and apply heat evenly with a heat gun, working from the center outward to prevent air pockets. Do not use an open flame as a heat source, as uneven heat can damage the tubing or the underlying insulation.
