The 3M 7010398849 is a semi-rigid, multi-wall heat shrink tubing designed for durable electrical insulation and wire bundling applications. Constructed from co-extruded, selectively cross-linked polyolefin, it features a 2.5:1 shrink ratio and an integral meltable inner wall that flows into voids and creates a sealed bond when heat is applied. Each stick measures 48 inches in length and is supplied in brown. Licensed electricians and experienced wire harness technicians are the primary installers of this tubing type. The meltable inner layer makes it well-suited for moisture-sealing and strain-relief on splices, connectors, and terminals.
This tubing is used in electrical, HVAC control wiring, and panel wiring applications where a reliable environmental seal over connections is required. The semi-rigid polyolefin construction handles moderate mechanical stress and resists common shop chemicals. It is appropriate for both residential and light commercial wiring scenarios where a compact 1/8-inch recovered diameter fits the application. Supplied as individual 48-inch sticks, it is commonly used on terminals, splices, and lead wire ends requiring both insulation and adhesive sealing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use heat shrink solution for electrical splices, terminals, and connectors requiring a sealed, semi-rigid insulation sleeve with a 1/8-inch nominal diameter.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or qualified wiring technicians. De-energize all circuits before placing tubing over conductors or terminals. Apply even heat using a heat gun, moving the gun continuously to avoid scorching the tubing or damaging underlying components. Allow the tubing and the meltable inner wall to fully recover and cool before restoring power or mechanical load to the connection.
