The 3M 7010380285 is a UHMW polyethylene film tape in the 3M 5421 series, designed to reduce friction and protect surfaces in high-wear industrial and trade applications. The tape features a translucent 5.0 mil ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene backing bonded with a rubber-based adhesive on a paper liner. Its low coefficient of friction and abrasion-resistant backing make it a practical solution for reducing noise and vibration in mechanical systems. Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 36 yards long with an overall thickness of 6.7 mil. HVAC technicians, millwrights, and mechanical contractors commonly specify this tape for component protection and noise attenuation in equipment assemblies.
This tape is suited for use on plastic and metal chutes, guide rails, conveyor components, and containers that experience repeated contact or sliding friction. In HVAC and mechanical applications, it is applied to duct liner edges, fan blade leading edges, blower housings, and sliding contact points where metal-on-metal or plastic-on-metal wear would otherwise occur. It is also used in refrigeration and food-processing equipment where surface protection and low friction are required. The tape applies without special equipment and conforms to contoured surfaces with moderate hand pressure.
Designed as an OEM-style protective film tape for metal and plastic wear surfaces including chutes, guide rails, and containers in industrial, HVAC, and mechanical assembly applications.
Surface must be clean, dry, and free of oil or loose debris before application. Clean metal or plastic substrates with an appropriate solvent and allow to dry fully before pressing the tape into place. Apply firm, even pressure across the full tape surface using a roller or squeegee to ensure full adhesive contact and eliminate air pockets. No power shutoff is required for surface-applied tape installation, but always follow applicable site safety and lockout procedures when working inside energized enclosures or moving equipment.
