The 3M 7010374279 is a UHMW polyethylene film tape — sold as 3M Tape 5423 — designed for noise reduction, vibration damping, and abrasion protection in industrial and trade applications. The tape features a translucent, 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing with a rubber-based adhesive on a paper liner, yielding an overall thickness of 11.7 mil. Its low coefficient of friction combined with high abrasion resistance make it well suited for surfaces that see repeated contact, sliding, or rubbing. Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 72 yards long. Installation requires no special tools and is handled by maintenance technicians, fabricators, and industrial trades professionals.
Tape 5423 is the thickest version in the 3M UHMW tape family, offering greater abrasion resistance than Tape 5421. It is used in applications where surfaces are subject to continuous wear, sliding contact, or mechanical noise. Typical uses include lining chutes, guides, wear strips, conveyor components, and any surface requiring a low-friction, protective barrier. It is suitable for both light industrial and heavy-duty shop environments where surface protection and noise attenuation are required.
Designed as a direct upgrade or thicker alternative to 3M UHMW Tape 5421, suitable for surfaces requiring enhanced abrasion resistance in noise and vibration control applications.
Surface preparation is critical — clean the substrate thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before applying the tape. Peel the paper liner and apply the tape with firm, even pressure to eliminate air pockets. No special tools are required, though a rubber roller improves bond strength on irregular surfaces. Power down or de-energize any associated equipment before applying tape to moving or mechanical components.
