The 3M 7010373933 is a fine line masking tape engineered for high-precision multi-color separation in fiberglass boat hull manufacturing and similar composite applications. This 1-inch-wide, 60-yard roll is built on a polypropylene plastic backing just 5.1 mil thick, giving it a low profile that minimizes gel coat edge buildup. The silicone adhesive bonds immediately to mold surfaces, including those treated with semi-permanent high-slip mold releases, and releases cleanly without lifting adjacent coats. Marine fabricators and composite technicians are the primary users of this tape.
This tape is designed for in-mold fine line masking on gel-coated fiberglass surfaces, particularly on high-value multi-color boat hulls. The low-profile construction keeps gel coat from bridging over the tape edge, producing sharp, clean color lines. Its resistance to solvents and moisture makes it suitable for the wet, chemically active environment of a gel coat layup operation. The green color aids visibility during layout and removal on light-colored mold surfaces.
Designed for in-mold fine line masking applications on gel-coated fiberglass surfaces, particularly multi-color boat hull fabrication using molds treated with semi-permanent high-slip mold releases.
Application is performed by marine fabricators and composite technicians during mold preparation before gel coat spraying. Ensure the mold surface is clean and the mold release has fully cured before applying tape. Press the tape edge firmly to prevent gel coat bleed-under. Remove the tape at the appropriate stage of gel coat cure as recommended by your gel coat manufacturer to achieve a clean, sharp color line.
