The 3M 7010373246 is a double-coated, open-cell urethane foam tape sold as Tape 4004 in an off-white finish. At 0.25 inches thick, the foam carrier bonds two surfaces simultaneously while filling voids and conforming to irregular or uneven substrates. A release liner on each adhesive face allows controlled, sequential application. The tape delivers cushioning and vibration damping in addition to bonding, making it a practical choice for assemblies where gap-filling and compliance are required alongside adhesion. HVAC, electrical, and general mechanical trades use this tape for mounting, gasketing, and sealing applications where a rigid fastener is not appropriate.
This tape is suited for residential and light commercial applications where surfaces are not perfectly mated. Common uses include securing insulation panels, mounting nameplates and trim pieces, sealing irregular seams in ductwork accessories, and providing cushioning between mating components. The roll format — 2 inches wide by 18 yards long — covers extended runs without splicing and is sized for hand-held dispenser use on the job site or in a shop setting.
Designed as a general-purpose double-coated foam tape for bonding, mounting, and gap-filling on rigid and semi-rigid substrates encountered in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and pool equipment service applications.
Clean and dry both mating surfaces before applying the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. Remove the liner from the first face, apply and press firmly to one substrate, then remove the second liner and mate the second surface under uniform pressure. Avoid stretching the foam during application, as elongation can reduce bond area and long-term adhesion performance. No special tools or licensed trade certification is required, but follow any applicable building or mechanical code requirements for the specific assembly being bonded.
