The 3M 7010372667 is a UHMW polyethylene film tape in the 3M 5423 series, designed for noise dampening, vibration isolation, and surface protection in demanding industrial and mechanical applications. It features a translucent 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing with a rubber-based adhesive on a paper liner. The tape delivers a low coefficient of friction alongside strong abrasion resistance, making it a practical choice for reducing contact wear and mechanical noise. At 11.7 mil total thickness, it is the thickest version in the 5423 lineup, providing greater abrasion resistance than the thinner 5421 variant. Licensed tradespeople and maintenance technicians install this tape where sliding or rubbing surfaces generate noise or accelerated wear.
This tape is suited for residential and commercial mechanical applications where metal, plastic, or composite surfaces contact one another under repetitive motion or load. Common installation scenarios include slide rails, wear pads, conveyor guides, drawer slides, chute liners, and cable protection points. It is also used in HVAC ductwork and equipment panels to address rattle and vibration. Each roll measures 8 inches wide by 18 yards in length, making it well suited for wider coverage areas requiring fewer seams.
Designed as a direct thicker-profile alternative to 3M Tape 5421, suitable for applications requiring greater abrasion resistance in noise, vibration, and wear-surface protection scenarios.
This tape is typically applied by maintenance technicians, HVAC installers, or mechanical contractors. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of oils or debris before application to ensure full adhesive contact. For best results, apply firm pressure across the entire tape surface using a roller or similar tool to eliminate air pockets. On dynamic or high-load surfaces, allow adequate dwell time after application before returning the assembly to service.
