The 3M 7010366965 is a 12-inch diameter silicon carbide unitized wheel from the Standard Abrasives 500 Series, designed for light-pressure blending, finishing, and polishing on both flat and contoured workpiece surfaces. Its soft, conformable density gives operators precise control when working to close tolerances. The open-web, non-woven construction resists loading, which extends service life compared to conventional bonded abrasive wheels. Silicon carbide mineral makes this wheel well suited for ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, exotic alloys including titanium, and composite materials. It is typically installed and operated by machinists, fabricators, and metalfinishing technicians in production or job-shop environments.
This wheel fits applications that require a fine surface finish without aggressive stock removal. The soft density construction conforms to irregular or contoured profiles, making it practical for deburring, blending weld seams, and surface conditioning on tight-tolerance parts. The wheel runs both clockwise and counterclockwise, providing flexibility when paired with a variety of fixed or portable tools and machines. A unitized wheel mandrel is required for mounting and is sold separately.
Designed for use with standard unitized wheel mandrels (sold separately) compatible with center-hole wheel configurations. Verify mandrel arbor size matches tool spindle specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or metalworking technician. Power down and de-energize the tool or machine completely before mounting or removing the wheel. Confirm the wheel mandrel and spindle speed rating meet or exceed the machine RPM before operation. Inspect the wheel for damage prior to each use and never operate a damaged or deformed non-woven wheel.
