The 3M 7010361844 is a coated abrasive belt built around 3M Precision-Shaped Grain technology, which slices through metal rather than gouging or plowing the way conventional ceramic abrasive grains do. Designated as the Cubitron II 947A, this belt measures 20.5 inches in length and 0.75 inches in width. It is constructed on an X-weight poly-cotton backing that provides flexibility across curved or contoured workpiece surfaces. A grinding aid is integrated into the bond system to reduce friction and keep cutting temperatures low, helping prevent heat-related discoloration or metallurgical damage to the workpiece. This belt is intended for use by metal fabricators, weld finishers, and maintenance technicians working with angle grinders or belt finishing machines.
The 947A belt is optimized for low- and medium-pressure grinding and finishing applications on stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum. Its flexible X-weight backing allows it to conform to workpiece geometry, making it well suited for weld blending, deburring, and surface conditioning tasks where a rigid abrasive would lose contact. The cool-cutting characteristic is especially relevant on stainless steel and aluminum, where heat buildup can cause discoloration, warping, or surface contamination that requires additional rework.
Designed for use on belt finishing machines and angle grinder belt attachments that accept a 20.5-inch by 0.75-inch abrasive belt. Suitable for grinding and finishing stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with abrasive belt tooling and applicable ANSI B11 or OSHA machine guarding requirements. Verify that the belt grinder or finishing machine is fully de-energized and locked out before mounting or removing the belt. Confirm the belt tracking and tension per the equipment manufacturer's specifications before resuming operation. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment including eye protection and gloves when handling and operating abrasive belts.
