The 3M 7010359779 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive material removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Built on a heavyweight polyester cloth backing with a closed-coat ceramic aluminum oxide grain, this belt delivers consistent cut rate and extended service life compared to conventional aluminum oxide products. At 60 grit, it falls in the medium grade range, making it well suited for blending welds, removing mill scale, and shaping stock before transitioning to finer grits. The YF-weight backing resists tearing under high-contact-pressure applications on belt grinders and finishing machines.
This belt is part of the 3M 777F series, engineered for demanding fabrication and metalworking environments. It is commonly used in machine shops, metal fabrication shops, and general manufacturing facilities where consistent stock removal and belt longevity are priorities. Suitable for both wet and dry operation, it works on stationary belt grinders, pipe grinders, and portable belt sanding tools that accept a 2.5-inch by 48-inch belt. Installers and operators in metal fab, HVAC sheet metal work, and structural steel applications will find this grit level appropriate for initial surface prep and weld blending tasks.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement belt for stationary and portable belt grinders and sanders that accept a 2.5-inch by 48-inch abrasive belt.
Belt grinder installation should be performed by a qualified operator with the machine powered down and unplugged before changing belts. Confirm belt tracking and tension per the machine manufacturer's guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the contact wheel or platen for wear that could cause uneven belt loading or premature failure. Always wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when handling and operating abrasive belts.
