The 3M 7010335032 is the Scotch Fine Line 265 Masking Tape, a polypropylene-backed layout tape engineered for in-mold fine line masking on multi-color gel coated fiberglass boat hulls and similar high-value composite surfaces. The tape measures 3/4 inch wide and 60 yards long per roll. Its silicone adhesive bonds immediately to mold-release surfaces, including semi-permanent high-slip mold releases, and holds reliably through the gel coat application process. The low-profile polypropylene backing provides sharp color separation lines and resists gel coat chemicals, most solvents, and moisture. It is green in color, making it easy to identify on the mold surface during layout work.
This tape is primarily used as a layout and masking tape in marine composite fabrication, specifically for separating gel coat colors on fiberglass boat hulls during the in-mold spray process. It is suited for production boat builders and composite fabricators who need clean, chemically resistant mask lines on treated mold surfaces. Its compatibility with mold-release agents makes it a practical choice where standard masking tapes fail to adhere adequately.
Designed for in-mold fine line masking applications on gel coated fiberglass surfaces, including molds treated with semi-permanent high-slip mold release agents.
Apply to clean, release-treated mold surfaces prior to gel coat spray operations. Ensure the mold surface is free of contamination before tape application to maintain adhesion and line quality. Remove the tape at the appropriate stage of the gel coat cure cycle as recommended for the specific resin system in use. Handle in accordance with applicable composite fabrication safety practices, including adequate ventilation when working with gel coats and solvents.
