The 3M 7010334421 is a transparent squeak reduction tape built on an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW) film with an acrylic adhesive backing. The UHMW film delivers a low coefficient of friction, allowing mating surfaces to move against each other without generating noise. It provides excellent abrasion resistance, making it well suited for applications where repeated contact or vibration between materials would otherwise cause wear. This tape is a thinner-profile version of 3M Tape 5430 and is sold in rolls measuring 6 inches wide by 36 yards long.
This tape is used in the automotive industry to control squeaks and rattles caused by vibration or wear between metal and plastic components. Typical applications include interior trim panels, door liners, instrument panel assemblies, and any contact point where dissimilar materials rub together during vehicle operation. Fabricators and automotive technicians apply the tape during assembly or as a corrective measure during service to eliminate noise complaints without modifying the underlying components.
Designed for use on metal-to-plastic and plastic-to-plastic contact surfaces in automotive assembly and service applications where squeak and rattle reduction is required.
Surface preparation is critical before applying pressure-sensitive tape; clean contact surfaces thoroughly to remove oils, dust, and loose particles prior to application. Apply firm, even pressure across the full tape surface to ensure full adhesive contact. When used in automotive interior service, follow the vehicle manufacturer's disassembly procedures and ensure components are at or above recommended ambient temperature for adhesive activation. Trim tape edges cleanly to prevent lifting at corners during service.
