The 3M 7010327617 is a coated abrasive fiber disc engineered for medium to heavy-duty metal grinding, weld removal, and beveling applications. Built on a stiff fiber backing with a strong resin bond, it carries 3M Precision-Shaped Grain that maintains sharp cutting points throughout the life of the disc. The result is a higher cut rate and longer disc life compared to conventional fiber discs, achieved with less applied grinding pressure. At 4.5 inches in diameter and 60 grit, this disc is well suited for aggressive material removal on steel, stainless, and heat-sensitive alloys where grinding temperatures must be managed.
This disc is used in fabrication shops, weld finishing lines, and structural steel applications where productivity and disc longevity matter. The incorporated grinding aid helps dissipate heat during use, making it appropriate for heat-sensitive alloys that can be damaged by excessive grinding temperatures. Its tear-resistant construction supports use in robotic grinding setups and pressure-assisted applications where discs are subjected to sustained high loads. Licensed fabricators and ironworkers handling heavy weld grinding or pipe beveling will find the stiff backing and durable bond well matched to those workflows.
Designed as a direct-mount coated abrasive fiber disc for use with standard 4.5-inch right-angle grinders and compatible backup pads accepting 4.5-inch fiber discs.
Installation and disc changes must be performed by a qualified operator with the grinder fully powered down and disconnected from its power source. Confirm the backup pad diameter and arbor size match before mounting. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and never exceed the maximum RPM rating of the disc. Follow ANSI B11 and applicable shop safety standards for abrasive wheel use.
