The 3M 7010327006 is a coated abrasive belt designed for high-pressure grinding, blending, and edge work on metal surfaces. It uses alumina zirconia mineral grain combined with a grinding aid to deliver faster cutting speeds and longer service life compared to standard aluminum oxide belts. The heavyweight polyester cloth backing resists water and withstands the stress of aggressive stock removal. At 50 grit, this belt is suited for coarse material removal passes. Fabrication shops, metal finishing operations, and weld grinding applications are the primary use cases. The belt runs cooler than conventional abrasives, making it appropriate for heat-sensitive metals.
This belt measures 12.57 inches in length and 2 inches in width, fitting belt grinders and sanders that accept that standard dimension. The 50 grit designation places it in the coarse range, making it well suited for initial weld grinding, heavy stock removal, and surface preparation on ferrous and non-ferrous metals including aluminum and stainless steel. The cool-cutting characteristic of the alumina zirconia grain helps prevent workpiece discoloration and surface damage when operating on heat-sensitive substrates in production environments.

Install the belt with the arrow on the backing aligned to the direction of travel on the machine to ensure proper grain orientation and backing integrity. Confirm the machine is powered off and unplugged before changing belts. Inspect the contact wheel and platen for wear before mounting a new belt, as uneven surfaces accelerate belt failure. Always wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when handling and operating abrasive belts.
