The 3M 7010309054 is a straight cartridge roll designed for use with mandrel-driven rotary tools in metalworking, fabrication, and finishing applications. It features an aluminum oxide abrasive grain bonded to a cloth backing, delivering durable cutting action on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, welds, and castings. At 80 grit, this is a medium-grade abrasive suited for stock removal and surface blending where a controlled scratch pattern is needed. The roll is rated to a maximum speed of 16,000 RPM, making it compatible with high-speed die grinders and rotary files used in industrial and trade settings. Machinists, welders, and metal fabricators are the typical installers of this consumable.
This cartridge roll is used in die grinder and cartridge roll mandrel setups for inside-diameter grinding, port work, deburring, and contour finishing. Common applications include weld blending on pipe and structural steel, surface preparation before coating, and smoothing bore profiles on castings or machined components. The cloth backing provides flexibility to conform to curved or irregular surfaces. It is well suited for both production shop environments and field repair work where a compact, mandrel-mounted abrasive is required.
Designed for use with standard cartridge roll mandrels in die grinders and rotary tools rated to handle 3/4 inch diameter straight cartridge rolls at up to 16,000 RPM.
Cartridge rolls are installed by a machinist, fabricator, or metalworker using a matched mandrel inserted into a die grinder or rotary tool. Verify the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 16,000 RPM maximum rating of the roll before operation. Ensure the mandrel is properly tightened and the roll is seated fully before engaging the workpiece. Always wear appropriate eye and face protection when using rotary abrasives.
