The 3M 7010308228 is a Trizact 217EA coated abrasive belt designed for intermediate finishing and fine polishing on metal workpieces prior to plating or buffing operations. It uses 3M microreplication technology in which micron-graded aluminum oxide mineral is formed into uniform pyramidal structures and bonded to a JE-weight rayon cloth backing. As the pyramids wear down during use, fresh, sharp mineral is continuously exposed at the cutting surface. The result is a consistent cut rate and a predictable, fine finish throughout the full service life of the belt. At 132 inches long and 2.5 inches wide, it is sized for production-scale belt finishing equipment.
This belt is well suited for metalworking applications that require repeatable surface finishes across high part volumes. It performs in light-pressure finishing scenarios and is particularly effective on contoured surfaces where the flexible JE-weight rayon backing conforms to the workpiece geometry. The consistent cut behavior and extended abrasive life make it appropriate for robotic and automated finishing lines where belt changeover frequency directly affects throughput. Typical applications include pre-plate and pre-buff finishing of stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals in fabrication and manufacturing environments.
Designed for use on belt finishing machines accepting 132 inch by 2.5 inch abrasive belts; suited for intermediate and fine finishing of metals prior to plating or buffing operations.
Installation should be performed by qualified machine operators or tooling technicians familiar with belt finishing equipment. Confirm belt tracking tension and tracking adjustment per the equipment manufacturer guidelines before running. Inspect the belt splice and ensure the arrow on the backing, if present, aligns with the direction of machine travel. Disconnect and lock out power to the finishing machine before changing belts.
