The 3M 7010300206 is a UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight) polyethylene film tape designed for noise reduction, vibration dampening, and surface protection in demanding industrial and mechanical applications. The tape features a translucent 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing bonded with a rubber-based adhesive on a paper liner, yielding a total thickness of 11.7 mil. Its low coefficient of friction combined with strong abrasion resistance makes it well suited for wear surfaces, guide rails, chutes, and sliding contact points. Each roll measures 2.5 inches wide by 36 yards long. This is the thickest version in the 542x tape family, offering greater abrasion protection than the 5421.
This tape is used in manufacturing, maintenance, and mechanical service environments where parts experience repeated sliding, rubbing, or vibration contact. Common applications include lining conveyor components, protecting painted or finished surfaces from scuffing, reducing squeaks between mating parts, and serving as a low-friction wear layer on guide surfaces. It is appropriate for both light industrial and heavy-duty applications where a thicker backing is required for extended service life under abrasive conditions.
Designed as a direct-application protective film tape suitable for metal, painted, and composite surfaces in industrial and mechanical assemblies where low friction and abrasion resistance are required.
Surface preparation is critical — clean the substrate thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before applying the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. Trim the tape to length using a sharp utility knife and a straightedge for clean edges. Apply firm, even pressure across the full tape surface to eliminate air pockets and maximize bond strength. No special tools or trade licensing are required, but proper surface prep and handling procedures should follow the manufacturer's application guidelines.
