The 3M 7010294661 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) diamond lapping film sheet designed for precision surface finishing on extremely hard materials. Graded diamond particles are uniformly coated onto a dimensionally stable polyester film backing, delivering a consistent, repeatable finish pass after pass. Each sheet measures 6 inches x 6 inches and carries a 3.0 micron particle grade, making it suitable for fine lapping and polishing operations where tight surface tolerances are required. This product is the PSA-backed variant of the 661X series, allowing it to adhere directly to a flat backing plate or platen without additional fixturing.
This lapping film is used in precision finishing applications across optical, fiber optic connector, semiconductor, ceramic, and carbide tooling industries. The PSA backing simplifies sheet placement on flat lapping platens and is well suited for both production environments and bench-level finishing work performed by machinists, toolmakers, and precision technicians. The 3.0 micron grade falls within the mid-to-fine range of the available 0.10 to 30.0 micron product line, bridging rough stock removal and final polishing stages.
Designed as a PSA-backed replacement and complement to the 661X series diamond lapping film; compatible with flat lapping platens and backing plates used in standard precision finishing setups.
Apply the sheet to a clean, flat platen or backing plate, pressing firmly from the center outward to eliminate air bubbles before use. Ensure the work surface and platen are free of debris that could cause uneven contact or premature film damage. Replace sheets when abrasive performance drops noticeably or when surface contamination cannot be removed, as continued use of a degraded sheet will compromise finish consistency.
