The 3M 7010292978 is a general purpose PTFE glass cloth tape sold as 3M Tape 5153. It measures 2 inches wide by 36 yards long at a total thickness of 6.8 mil. The tape is constructed from a woven glass cloth substrate fully impregnated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and coated on one side with a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive. The light brown PTFE-glass construction delivers a non-stick, low-friction surface combined with high tensile strength, puncture resistance, abrasion resistance, and low moisture absorption. It is commonly installed by maintenance technicians and production equipment specialists on heat-sealing equipment and industrial process machinery.
This tape is suited for both light industrial and production-line applications. It performs reliably on heat-sealing machine platen surfaces where easy, repeatable release is required after each cycle. It is also applied to conveying chutes, troughs, and ducts to reduce drag and keep material flow consistent. The PTFE impregnation provides resistance to most chemicals, making it appropriate for process environments where exposure to solvents, oils, or cleaning agents is expected. The silicone adhesive maintains bond integrity at elevated temperatures typical of heat-sealing operations.
Designed for use on heat-sealing machines and process equipment surfaces, including conveying chutes, troughs, and ducts where a low-friction, chemical-resistant, easy-release surface is required.
Installation does not require specialized tools, but surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of oils or residue before application to ensure proper adhesive contact. Power down and de-energize any heat-sealing or conveying equipment before applying or replacing the tape. Allow the equipment to cool to a safe handling temperature prior to surface preparation. Trim tape with a straight edge and sharp blade for clean edge adhesion.
