The 3M 7010029940 is a coated abrasive hook-and-loop sanding disc engineered for finish sanding applications where dust evacuation and consistent cut are critical. This 5-inch disc uses an aluminum oxide grain on a durable film backing with an open-coat, load-resistant construction. The multi-hole pattern evacuates dust more efficiently than standard 5- or 6-hole disc designs, extending disc life and maintaining cut rate throughout the disc's service life. It is installed and removed without aligning holes to the backing pad, making disc changes fast during production or service work.
This disc is suited for surface preparation and finish sanding on metal, painted surfaces, primers, and composites in light industrial, auto body, and general fabrication settings. At P1000 grit, it is appropriate for fine finishing passes where scratch pattern control and surface smoothness matter. The hook-and-loop attachment system allows quick disc swaps on compatible random orbital and orbital sanders used by body technicians, fabricators, and finishing trades. The film backing resists tearing during aggressive passes and provides a close-tolerance, consistent finish across the work surface.
Designed for use with 5-inch hook-and-loop backing pads on random orbital and orbital sanders. The multi-hole pattern does not require alignment with backing pad holes, making it compatible with a wide range of 5-inch hook-and-loop disc pads used in finishing and surface preparation applications.
Installation is performed by pressing the disc firmly against a compatible 5-inch hook-and-loop backing pad until the hook fasteners fully engage. Verify the sander RPM rating does not exceed 12,000 RPM before use. Inspect the backing pad for worn hook material before attaching a new disc, as a degraded pad reduces holding force and can cause disc separation during operation. Allow the sander to come to a complete stop before removing or replacing discs.
