The 3M 7000148197 is a Type 29 right-angle flap disc engineered for medium-pressure grinding and surface preparation on flat and contoured workpieces. Built on the Cubitron II 967A platform, it uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain technology to deliver a consistently fast cut rate from first use through the life of the disc. At 40 grit, it removes material aggressively enough for weld leveling and light deburring while leaving a surface ready for paint or further finishing. A poly-cotton backing controls wear evenly under medium unit pressure, and individual flaps break down progressively to expose fresh abrasive mineral throughout use.
This disc is well suited for fabrication shops and field work involving mild steel and stainless steel. Typical applications include weld removal, weld leveling, light deburring, and pre-paint surface preparation. Its contoured flap construction allows it to follow curved and irregular profiles more effectively than rigid bonded wheels or fiber discs, making it a practical choice for both flat stock and shaped components. Metalworking fabricators, pipefitters, and ironworkers commonly use this disc in production and maintenance environments.
Designed for use with standard 5-inch right-angle grinders in metalworking applications on mild steel and stainless steel. Verify that the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the maximum RPM marked on the disc before mounting.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with abrasive wheel safety per ANSI B7.1 guidelines. Disconnect and lock out power to the grinder before mounting or removing the disc. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and never operate above the rated maximum RPM. Allow the disc to run at operating speed for one minute in a guarded area before applying it to the workpiece.
