The 3M 7000144792 is a low static polyimide film tape, sold as 3M Tape 5419, featuring a translucent polyimide film backing with a silicone adhesive system. The tape measures 1 inch wide by 36 yards long and carries a 2.7 mil total thickness. Its defining characteristic is an extremely low electrostatic discharge profile, making it suitable for use in sensitive electronic assembly environments. The roll ships with a paper core. Primary applications include masking printed circuit boards during wave solder and solder dip processes, as well as serving as a release surface in the fabrication of parts cured at elevated temperatures.
This tape is used in electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly operations where static control is critical. The silicone adhesive system withstands the elevated temperatures encountered during wave solder and solder dip processes. It is also applied in composite and parts fabrication workflows where a high-temperature release surface is needed. Electronics assembly technicians and fabrication operators are the primary installers and users of this product.
Designed for use as a masking tape on printed circuit boards during wave solder and solder dip processes, and as a release surface in elevated-temperature parts fabrication applications.
Application is performed by electronics assembly or fabrication technicians following the process requirements of the assembly line or fabrication setup. Ensure the substrate surface is clean and free of contamination before applying the tape to achieve proper adhesion and clean removal. Follow facility ESD handling protocols when working in static-sensitive assembly areas. Remove the tape promptly after the soldering or curing cycle is complete to minimize residue risk.
