The 3M 7000143431 is a gray, double-sided, closed-cell acrylic foam tape in the VHB 4941F series, measuring 7/8 inches wide by 36 yards long at a 45 mil thickness. It is a pressure-sensitive, conformable tape engineered to create structural bonds on high and medium surface energy substrates without fasteners or liquid adhesives. The closed-cell foam core provides cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance along with the bond. It carries a UL 746C listing and is rated plasticizer resistant, making it suitable for demanding assembly and fabrication applications across multiple trades.
This tape is used in applications where mechanical fasteners are impractical or where a clean, flush finish is required. Common install scenarios include bonding metal panels, attaching trim and signage, sealing dissimilar materials, and securing components in HVAC cabinet assembly, electrical enclosure fabrication, and light industrial manufacturing. The conformable foam construction allows it to follow slight surface irregularities and maintain consistent contact pressure across the bond area. It is sold in roll form.
Designed for bonding high and medium surface energy substrates. Typical applications include metal, glass, and rigid plastic surfaces in fabrication, panel assembly, and trim attachment scenarios.
Surface preparation is critical — clean bonding surfaces thoroughly to remove oils, dust, and contaminants before application. Apply firm, even pressure across the tape after positioning to activate the pressure-sensitive adhesive. Allow adequate dwell time before loading the bond, as acrylic foam adhesives continue to build strength over the first 24 to 72 hours. This product should be applied by the tradesperson responsible for the assembly; follow applicable codes and safety guidelines for confined-space or elevated-work installations.
