The 3M 7000138512 is a Series 23 self-fusing rubber electrical tape engineered for high-voltage insulation, splicing, reinforcing, and sealing applications. It measures 2 inches wide by 30 feet long with a 30 mil thickness, providing substantial build-up per wrap for demanding installations. The rubber adhesive construction delivers a dielectric strength of 800 volts per mil, making it suitable for medium-voltage cable work and splice insulation. Rated for operating temperatures from 0 degrees F to 194 degrees F, this tape performs across a wide range of field and service conditions. Licensed electricians and utility technicians reach for this tape when jacketing splices, sealing moisture ingress points, or reinforcing insulation at terminations.
Series 23 rubber electrical tape is used in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work wherever a thick, conformable insulating wrap is required. Typical applications include power cable splices, cable terminations, and insulation repairs on conductors and bus work. The self-fusing nature of the rubber adhesive creates a void-free, moisture-resistant wrap that conforms tightly to irregular geometries including cable shoulders and connector bodies. It is also well suited for reinforcing existing jacketing on cables subject to abrasion or environmental exposure.
Designed as an OEM-style insulating and splicing tape for medium-voltage cable terminations and splice assemblies in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified, licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements for the voltage class being serviced. De-energize and lock out the circuit before beginning any splice or termination work. Apply the tape in overlapping half-lapped wraps under moderate tension to ensure full self-fusion and eliminate air voids. Do not stretch tape to the point of thinning the 30 mil cross-section, as this reduces effective dielectric build.
