The 3M 7000138435 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve rated for use on 1 to 35 kV cable systems. It is designed to restore and protect damaged cable sheaths in medium-voltage electrical applications. The sleeve wraps around the cable without requiring access to a free cable end, and a corrosion-resistant metal closure clip secures it in place before heat is applied. The inner wall is pre-coated with hot melt adhesive that flows and bonds to the cable surface during heat application, forming a watertight, mechanically sound seal. Licensed electricians and cable splicing crews install this sleeve during cable repair and joint protection work.
This sleeve is suited for medium-voltage power cable repair in underground, direct-buried, and conduit installations where the cable sheath has been mechanically damaged or compromised. It is also applied over cable joints as supplemental insulation and corrosion protection, and it can be used on undamaged cables where additional environmental protection is required. It performs reliably in chemically aggressive and high-moisture environments typical of industrial, utility, and infrastructure cable runs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and repair solution for medium-voltage cable systems rated 1 to 35 kV. Suitable for use over cable sheaths, cable joints, and undamaged cables requiring additional protection.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified cable splicing technician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements and local utility standards. De-energize and verify the cable is fully isolated before beginning any repair work. Clean and dry the cable surface in the repair area prior to sleeve application to ensure proper adhesive bonding. Apply heat evenly with an appropriate propane or hot-air torch, working from the center of the sleeve outward, until the adhesive flows and a secure seal is achieved.
