The 3M 7000138433 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve rated for use on 1 to 35 kV cable systems. It is designed to repair damaged cable sheaths and restore mechanical and environmental protection to the cable jacket. The inner wall is coated with hot melt adhesive that activates under heat, creating a watertight bond with the cable surface. A corrosion-resistant metal clip fully closes the sleeve before shrinking. Licensed electricians and cable splicing technicians install this sleeve as part of medium-voltage cable repair and joint protection work.
This sleeve is suited for repairing damaged outer sheaths on medium-voltage power cables in the 1 to 35 kV range. It also serves as additional corrosion protection on undamaged cables and as an outer covering for cable joints. The wraparound design allows installation without cutting the cable end, making it practical for in-place repairs on installed runs in underground, direct-buried, and conduit applications where aggressive environmental conditions are present.
Designed for use on medium-voltage power cables rated from 1 to 35 kV, including sheath repair, cable joint oversheathing, and supplemental corrosion protection applications.
Installation is performed by qualified electricians or cable splicing technicians following applicable NEC and utility work practices. De-energize and isolate the cable circuit completely before beginning any repair work on the sheath or joint. A propane or butane heat torch is typically used to activate shrink and bond the adhesive layer; apply heat evenly from the center outward to avoid air entrapment. Verify the metal closure clip is fully seated and the sleeve is fully shrunk with adhesive flow visible at both edges before returning the cable to service.
