The 3M 7000138432 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve engineered to restore damaged cable sheaths in demanding field environments. The inner wall is lined with hot melt adhesive that activates under heat, forming a watertight, corrosion-resistant bond around the cable surface. A corrosion-proof metal clip secures the sleeve closure before and during shrink. Weighing 4.12 pounds, the sleeve measures 29.5 inches in length and is suited for repair work performed by licensed electricians and cable installation technicians working on sheathed cable systems.
This sleeve is used for repairing mechanically damaged cable sheaths, sealing cable joints, and adding supplemental corrosion protection to undamaged cable runs. Its wraparound format means it can be applied to in-place cable without requiring access to a free cable end, making it well suited for mid-span repairs on buried, conduit-routed, or exposed installations in industrial, utility, and infrastructure applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sleeve for use with sheathed power and data cables requiring sheath repair, joint encapsulation, or additional corrosion protection in utility and industrial installations.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or qualified cable technicians. De-energize and lock out the affected circuit before beginning any cable repair work in accordance with NFPA 70E and applicable local codes. A calibrated heat source such as a propane or butane torch should be applied evenly along the sleeve to achieve uniform shrink and full adhesive activation. Do not overheat any single section, as uneven shrink can compromise the watertight seal.
