The 3M 7000138431 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve engineered to restore and protect damaged cable sheaths in demanding field conditions. The sleeve features an inner wall coated with hot melt adhesive that activates under heat, forming a watertight, secure bond around the cable. A corrosion-resistant metal clip locks the sleeve closed before shrinking, keeping it properly positioned during installation. At 47.2 inches in length, it covers substantial repair spans and provides reliable mechanical protection against abrasion, impact, and exposure to aggressive environments.
This sleeve is suited for electrical and utility cable repair work in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. It is designed for use on damaged cable sheaths, at cable joints requiring additional sealing, and as supplemental corrosion protection on undamaged cables. The wraparound design eliminates the need to thread the sleeve over cable ends, making it practical for mid-run repairs without disconnecting cable terminations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and repair sleeve for cable sheath restoration applications across a range of cable diameters consistent with the HDCW-80/25-1200 size designation.
Installation is typically performed by licensed electricians or qualified utility technicians. De-energize and lock out the affected cable circuit before beginning any repair work in accordance with NFPA 70E safe work practices. Clean and dry the cable surface before positioning the sleeve, then close the metal clip and apply uniform heat with a propane or butane torch, working from the center outward to avoid air entrapment. Do not overheat any single area, as uneven shrinking can compromise the adhesive seal.
