The 3M 7000138429 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve engineered to restore damaged cable jacketing quickly and reliably. Built from cross-linked polyolefin with an integrated hot melt adhesive, it forms a durable, moisture-resistant seal when heated. The sleeve functions as insulation material on cables and splices rated up to 1000 volts and as a jacket repair material on cables rated up to 35 kV. It meets ANSI C119.1 requirements and is RoHS compliant. Electricians and cable splice technicians working on medium-voltage distribution and industrial wiring installations are the primary installers.
This sleeve is suited for both residential service entrance repairs and commercial or industrial medium-voltage cable jacket restoration. The wraparound design eliminates the need to access a free cable end, making it practical for in-place repairs on energized-circuit outages, underground feeder runs, and conduit-routed cable where pulling slack is not possible. It performs reliably in harsh outdoor and underground environments where exposure to moisture, soil, and mechanical abrasion are ongoing concerns. Each case contains 5 sleeves.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and repair solution for medium-voltage cable jacket applications up to 35 kV where wraparound heat shrink sleeves are specified.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians following applicable NEC requirements and utility or facility switching procedures. De-energize and verify absence of voltage on the affected cable segment before applying the sleeve. Use a propane or butane torch with a wide-flame tip, or a heat gun capable of sustained output, to shrink the sleeve evenly from the center outward to prevent air pockets. Avoid overheating any single area, as excessive heat can damage the adhesive layer or the underlying cable insulation.
