The 3M 7000138427 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve engineered to restore and protect damaged cable sheaths in demanding electrical and utility installations. The sleeve features an inner wall coated with hot melt adhesive that bonds securely to the cable surface when heat is applied, creating a watertight, corrosion-resistant seal. A corrosion-proof metal closure clip fully secures the wraparound seam. At 39.4 inches in length, this sleeve is suited for longer repair sections where continuous protection is needed. Licensed electricians and cable maintenance technicians use this product for sheath repairs, cable joint protection, and corrosion prevention on both damaged and undamaged cables.
This sleeve is appropriate for use in residential, commercial, and industrial cable repair applications where mechanical protection and moisture exclusion are required. It performs in aggressive environments including direct-burial, underground conduit, and outdoor aerial runs. It can also be applied over cable joints as supplemental insulation and corrosion protection. The wraparound design allows installation without cutting or pulling the cable end, making it practical for in-place repairs on existing cable runs.
Designed as a wraparound heat shrink repair sleeve for cable sheath restoration and joint protection across a range of cable diameters consistent with the HDCW-55/15 series designation. Verify cable outer diameter falls within the specified shrink range before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified electricians or cable technicians following applicable NEC guidelines and site safety procedures. De-energize and verify the cable is de-energized before beginning any sheath repair work. Clean and dry the cable surface before positioning the sleeve, then apply heat evenly using an appropriate heat gun, working from the center outward to activate the adhesive and shrink the sleeve uniformly. Do not overheat or apply an open flame directly to the sleeve surface.
