The 3M 7000138425 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve designed to restore damaged cable sheaths in electrical and utility installations. The sleeve features an inner wall coated with hot-melt adhesive that bonds tightly to the cable surface when heat is applied, creating a watertight seal. A corrosion-proof metal clip locks the sleeve fully closed before shrinking. At 19.7 inches in length, it provides substantial coverage for cable repairs, joint protection, and supplemental corrosion protection on undamaged cable runs. Licensed electricians and cable splicing technicians are the primary installers.
This sleeve is suited for both repair and protective applications across a range of cable types. It can be used to repair mechanically damaged cable sheaths, cover cable joints, or add an extra layer of corrosion protection to intact cables. Its wraparound design eliminates the need to thread the sleeve over a cable end, making it practical for mid-span repairs and in-place installations where cable terminations are not accessible.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and field-repair sleeve for electrical cable sheath applications requiring wraparound heat-shrink coverage.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician or qualified cable splicing technician. De-energize and verify absence of voltage on the affected cable before beginning any repair work, following applicable NEC guidelines. Use a propane or electric heat gun rated for heat-shrink applications, applying heat evenly from the center of the sleeve outward to activate the adhesive and achieve uniform shrink. Do not overheat any single area, as uneven heating can compromise the adhesive bond and watertight seal.
