The 3M 7000138424 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve rated for use on medium-voltage cable systems from 1 to 35 kV. It is engineered to repair damaged cable sheaths and outer jackets in underground, direct-buried, and exposed cable installations. The inner wall is lined with a hot melt adhesive that bonds to the cable surface when heat is applied, creating a watertight seal. A corrosion-resistant metal closure clip secures the wraparound seam before shrinking. Licensed electricians and cable splicing technicians are the primary installers of this sleeve.
This sleeve is suited for medium-voltage power cable applications in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Typical use cases include repairing mechanically damaged cable sheaths, providing supplemental corrosion protection over undamaged cables, and serving as an outer protection layer over cable joints. The wraparound design allows field application over continuous runs without requiring cable end access.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and repair component for medium-voltage power cable sheath applications rated between 1 and 35 kV.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or qualified cable splicing technicians following applicable NEC and utility work practice guidelines. De-energize and lock out the cable circuit before performing any sheath repair work. Apply heat evenly using a propane or butane torch, working from the center of the sleeve outward toward the edges to achieve a uniform shrink and full adhesive bond. Do not overheat any single area, as this can compromise the adhesive layer or sleeve integrity.
