The 3M 7000132812 is a varnished cambric electrical insulating tape sold under the Scotch 2520 designation. Varnished cambric tape is a cloth-based dielectric tape coated with an insulating varnish, used to wrap coils, provide slot insulation in motors and transformers, and serve as a phase separator or layer insulation in electrical assemblies. Each roll measures 1.5 inches wide by 36 yards long. This case ships 24 rolls. Electricians, motor rewinders, and electrical maintenance technicians typically specify varnished cambric tape where mechanical toughness and dielectric integrity are both required.
Varnished cambric tape is well suited for motor winding insulation, transformer coil wrapping, and bus bar phase separation in residential and commercial electrical applications. It is also used in switchgear assemblies and control panel construction where a conformable, varnish-impregnated barrier material is needed. The 1.5-inch width fits standard coil-wrapping and slot-lining tasks without requiring trimming on most common motor frame sizes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose insulating tape for use in motor rewinding, transformer servicing, and electrical assembly applications where varnished cambric material is specified.
Installation of varnished cambric tape is typically performed by licensed electricians or motor rewinding technicians. De-energize all circuits and follow NFPA 70 (NEC) lockout/tagout procedures before beginning any coil or winding work. Apply tape under consistent tension to avoid air pockets between layers. Do not stretch the tape to the point of cracking the varnish coating, as this compromises the dielectric barrier.
