The 3M 7000125231 is a low static polyimide film tape in the 5419 Gold series, designed for high-temperature masking and release applications in electronics manufacturing and composite fabrication. The tape features a translucent gold polyimide film backing with a silicone adhesive system and measures 1 inch wide by 36 yards long at a total thickness of 2.7 mil. Its defining characteristic is an extremely low electrostatic discharge (ESD) profile, making it suitable for use around sensitive electronic components. Electronics assembly technicians and composites fabricators are the primary installers of this product.
This tape is used in two primary application categories. In electronics manufacturing, it serves as a masking tape for printed circuit boards during wave solder or solder dip processes, protecting areas that must remain free of solder. In composites and part fabrication, it functions as a release surface when curing parts at elevated temperatures. The silicone adhesive system supports repeated thermal cycling without adhesive transfer, keeping work surfaces and PCB contacts clean after removal.
Designed for use as a masking tape in wave solder and solder dip PCB assembly processes and as a release surface in elevated-temperature part fabrication and composites curing operations.
Application should be performed by electronics assembly technicians or composites fabricators familiar with ESD precautions and high-temperature process requirements. Ensure the substrate surface is clean and dry before applying the tape to achieve consistent adhesion and clean removal. After the soldering or curing process, remove the tape promptly while the assembly is still warm to minimize any risk of adhesive bond strengthening. Follow facility ESD handling protocols when working near sensitive electronic assemblies.
